Donation Summary: Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks

The Fallen Officer:
Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks succumbed to injuries he received when he was struck by a truck during a traffic stop on August 10, 2025.
The Circumstance:
Around 2:00 a.m., Trooper Ricks had stopped a vehicle on Interstate 26 eastbound near mile marker 166 in Orangeburg. When he walked back to his patrol vehicle, the driver of a box truck struck him. He was transported to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, suffering from severe brain injury, internal injuries, and broken bones in his back. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle under suspension.
“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and condolences during this time of grief,” the family said in a statement. ”Your words, gestures, and support have been a source of comfort."
“As we honor Dennis, I just ask everyone to please slow down and move over for emergency vehicles,” she said. “My husband would still be here, if everyone could do that. Please give these men and women the space to work safely. That’s one way that we can remember him.”
Trooper Ricks had served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol for almost two years. He is survived by his wife. He passed away on August 13, 2025.
